It’s All About ME!

Welcome! My name is Jenn. I’m the one who’s fairly well caffeinated.
This is my blog.

Ok, this is me as imagined by an AI bot, but if you rub Vaseline on your glasses and squint at me in real life, I swear you’ll recognize me then.

I am a 50 (cough) something year old, over-caffeinated and slightly high-strung mom of two teens, currently living outside of Dallas with my awesome hubby of 19 years. We also have a mad rescue who walks me daily and keeps my floors filthy. She doesn’t much like anyone, so she’s fun.

After the birth of my son I left my career in managed futures to be a stay-at-home mom.  After the birth of my daughter, I started writing as both a creative outlet (because talking to myself was becoming suspect) and also to allow my far-flung family a way to keep up with my children’s hilarious antics.

Since those early days, it has grown into a written and visual record of random aspects of parenthood, the ramblings and rants of (about) my children, and all the  silly, introspective or serious moments and other random stuff that I want to share.

I no longer vlog, and I promise to never sing again. I also do the occasional product review and what-have-you, but only about things that fit in well with what I’m about. I promise this won’t turn into an infomercial with brief journalistic breaks.

I realize that is a little random, but I wanted to put it out there.

Speaking of random…here’s a bit about me:

I am physically unable to leave the house without under-eye  concealer and mascara. I blame this on my mother, who was so fixated on HER under-eye circles that she would chase me out of the house at age 12 holding a tube of Erase (which looked like a tube of lipstick. I often feared she would grab an actual tube of lipstick by mistake and I would arrive at school looking like a cross-dressing left tackle).

I’m an introvert. Because I’m so shy and reserved in person, you wouldn’t know how witty I am. At least I think I’m witty. Like my Dad thought he was witty. Hmmm.

I like writing because I have the ability to filter and edit, which I do not have when meeting someone face-to-face. My filter is non-functioning in group situations, so I live in fear of saying something incredibly stupid. Which, in the end, makes me very anxious in group situations, so I have to imagine people in footie pajamas – because no once can be intimidating in footie pajamas.

I love books, and am usually reading two or three at a time. I read in the car, waiting for my kids to come out of school, at the breakfast table, and I used to read in the bathtub, but I can never keep the water warm enough. I write book reviews because I love sharing books I love, and because I can procrastinate on that book I’m working on.

Once upon a time, I wanted to be a children’s book writer and illustrator when I grew up. I may just do that, if I ever grow up.

When I’m not driving the SUV to marching band competitions, volunteering and what-have-you, trying to lose my last 10 pounds of baby weight or finding new ways to avoid carbs,  I’m attempting to keep my life ordered, my head together and enjoy my teens while they still think I’m cool.

I think I have about 20 minutes left.

Oh, Jenn, you were always shy and creative. Love to see you and meet your family. Don’t lose that illustrating dream. It still could come true.

Hello! Love your blog layout, it’s lovely. My kids are nagging me for a dog but I feel with 3 hens, 1 cat, a variety of dead gerbils, plus 3 children, myself and my long suffering husband, we have enough of a zoo. I’m sure I’ll cave in one day 🙂
Keep up the fab writing, off to read more.

Welcome Angie – I covet your ability with pen and ink. If you had a dog, you would lose that last 10 minutes to draw those lovely sketches, so please, don’t. (I’ll bring my mad dog down for an afternoon and your children can play with her.) What is it with gerbils, anyway?
