Escape Room Fun At Escape Hunt Dallas

Locked in a room with a group of clever women, tasked with solving a puzzle, hearts racing, armed with nothing but our wits (and a sense of humor) and some guidance from behind a screen…

While it sounds like an updated episode of Charlie’s Angels, this actually went down at a hosted event I recently attended at Escape Hunt Dallas, an upscale escape room in the DFW area. I’ve heard quite a bit about escape rooms lately but didn’t quite understand what it was all about.

From the moment I stepped through the doors at Escape Hunt Dallas, my curiosity was piqued. You are greeted in a lobby that feels a bit like something out of the game CLUE, or a Sherlock Holmes novel – right down the to the Game Masters!

The morning kicked off with a lively brunch in the inviting party room, while owners Chad and Heaven Lesher gave us a bit of background on the escape room concept. My friend told me about the Best Escape Room in Chicago and how much she had enjoyed going, but other than that, I didn’t know much about what to expect.

The room is perfect for a party or for a corporate event. They even provide full service catering, which I can highly recommend. Yum.

Then we met Game Master Daniel, who gave us a brief overview of how the game is run and demonstrated some of the locks we might be trying to open to find more clues.

And with that, we put all our belongings in lockers (no cheating, people) and set off for the game!

We played The Stolen Texas Lone Star game, one of three games currently running at Escape Hunt Dallas. We entered the room and the door locked behind us, with 60 minutes to solve the puzzle. The Game Master runs the game from outside the room, where can see and hear everything we are doing via cameras and an audio monitor we carried with us, and communicated us via a computer screen in the room. Groups are allowed 4 clues that you ask for when you get stuck, although the Game Master gave us occasional nudges, such as when we were close to solving one puzzle but our math was wrong. (Oops!)

Possibly the most challenging thing in this game chock full of puzzles is just getting started, because you have simply have to start searching for clues! Once we got rolling, we seemed to find our groove as we had a better idea of what we were looking for and how to play the game. It’s very much a learn-as-you-go experience, and definitely tested our wits.

We outwitted the puzzle, though, and just missed breaking the record by about a minute! Go us! (About that math though…) I confess, I was a bit breathless at the end – it really was intense, and exciting! (We weren’t the least bit competitive, after all. gives side-eye)

This is a really fun idea for date night or a girls (or guys) night out, and I can see where it would be a great corporate team building experience because so much teamwork was needed to succeed. And it is the perfect experience for those who love puzzles, games, mysteries, and excitement! (My heart was racing, that’s for sure.)
