What makes this girl happy?

Chocolate. Cookies. (Chocolate cookies? Even better.) Good wine. Some lovely cheese and delicious crackers to nibble on. A pretty scented candle to fill the room (hint for any fellas looking to treat their lady… we only like the very best scented candles!). A great chick flick and a lovely blanket to snuggle up in while I watch it, and drink wine, and nibble on crackers and cheese, and cookies.

Put them all together and you have the fixings for a fun gift basket for a good friend! The contents are easy to tweak for any occasion – pick a holiday romantic comedy for Christmas, or even a bit of a happy tear-jerker for that friend who is going through a rough patch and needs a good cry and some comfort.

I’m working on Christmas pressies now because I want to give a few good friends a fun, easy gift ahead of the holidays. It’s a bit of a pamper, because I know how busy they all are – just like me. Did I mention these girls’ night baskets make a wonderful hostess gift too? Well, they do! It’s the perfect treat to convince a friend take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season!

I start with a soft throw blanket – perfect for snuggling up with the movie I’ll include and the treats I’m giving. Fold it so that it will line the basket you are using. If you want to add an extra touch of love you could even consider using a custom photo blanket that has photo memories on it, they would love it!

I love gifting wine, especially at the holidays, because you can never have too much on hand. For this basket, I’ve picked out a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon from Clos Du Bois Wines; it’s flavors of dark berry, bittersweet chocolate and hints of spice are perfect to pair with both meat, strong cheeses and dark chocolate. I’ve long been a fan of Clos Du Bois – it’s both an elegant and approachable wine from California, inspired by French winemaking. Now, nestle that wine in the gift basket, bottom braced against the front.

With the wine, you need things to nibble upon while you watch your movie. I can never decide between sweet and savory, so I’m looking to Pepperidge Farm to fill both needs. The Pepperidge Farm Chocolate Collection offers up 7 different yummy varieties of their favorite cookies in pretty shapes and designs. Even the way the cookies are displayed when you first opens the box highlights how special these cookies are.

As tempting as it is to dig into the cookies, just put the box in the basket!

Along with the wine, cookies and crackers, I’m adding in a pretty scented candle and a cozy blanket – perfect for snuggling up in while watching the fun movie I’ve added.

My basket is complete!

To build my holiday basket, I headed to my neighborhood Walmart, because I can find everything and anything I needed for putting together this great gift as well as everything I need for holiday entertaining. I was happy to find so many premium wine choices at really great prices.

In fact, on my last trip there I discovered Barilla Pronto Pasta, which is ready in minutes. That means less time is spent in the kitchen, and more time can be spent celebrating with friends and family!

And I confess, I love everything in this gift basket so much that I bought doubles, and I kept the Pepperidge Farm Cracker Trio for myself. It turns out that they are perfect for serving with cheese to complement the wine I opened for my pasta. It would have been a smart addition to the gift basket, because wine, cheese and crackers go hand in hand…oh, you know what I mean – but I couldn’t resist! These crackers are perfect for entertaining or for a casual night in – but were also perfect for nibbling on while I cooked. Oops!

It was fun to pair chocolate cookies and cheeses with the wines; select Walmart stores will be holding wine tastings and Barilla and Pepperidge Farm demos in November and December. You can get details, along with some pretty amazing recipes on the Simple Entertaining Hub here!

I was pretty excited to surprise my sister with this girls’ night basket. She’s all set for a fun night in. So tell me:

Who would you give a basket like this to, and what would you put in yours?
