My Top 6 Summer Moments (So Far)

We’re more than halfway through the summer – only 31 days left until school starts (not that I’m counting, of course) and we have managed to pack a lot into this hot weather!

Here are my top six summer moments so far, as inspired by a prompt from Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop:

Number 6:

Fourth of July at Toyota Stadium for the FC Dallas match. It was a great game against the New England Revolution (apt), we won (yes, we, because my brain waves and positive vibes seriously did play a role in helping score that last goal) AND we saw some seriously spectacular fireworks from our seats, with nary a mosquito in sight.

Because it was too hot, and they are smarter than we are.

Number 5:

Attending AdventureCon at SeaWorld. I’m still getting my head around all the awesomeness, which is the REAL reason you haven’t seen my post. But you will. Honest. It totally made up for having to miss BlogHer and Blogger Bash because I was on vacation AND while I was getting my learning on, the rest of the family was at Sea World doing cool stuff like feeding sea lions, talking to the trainers and chilling in the lazy river.

Number 4:

Celebrating my anniversary at with what felt like a million of my closest, albeit drunken friends at the Jimmy Buffett concert. Huey Lewis and the News opened, so we practically felt like kids again. Oh, and it was the first date night we’d had since moving to Dallas. No one says “happy 12 years, baby” quite like a 300-pound man in a paper hula skirt and a coconut bra, but it sums up our time together – always an adventure, and always something to laugh about.

Number 3:

Attending my first Rolling Stones concert. So glad I got to see them before I’m too old to go to concerts, and they are dead.

Number 2:

Spending time with family in Virginia. We travel back east maybe once a year, if we are lucky and the time we have together makes me regret how far away we live.

Number 1.

Our week at the Outer Banks, where I watched my kids jump waves and (finally) show no fear of the water, despite limb numbing water temps one day and rough surf and a strong “underfoot”, as Miss M called it, the next.

And no one was bitten by a shark. Not even a nibble. So there’s that.

The only thing that was eaten was steamed shrimp. And maple bacon donuts. And she-crab soup. And North Carolina BBQ. Nom, nom, nom.  Because the other best part of the annual trip is the eatin’.

So what about you? What are YOUR top memories of the summer so far?

Sounds like your summer is a lot of fun! So lucky you still have that much time left. We go back Aug. 12… Ugh. I’m Soooo not ready. Hope you get to make the rest of your summer just as memorable as the 1st part. Coming at ya from Mama Kat’s.

    • It sure doesn’t feel like a lot of time! The kids are busy making there short-form bucket lists to fill in the remainder of the summer break. So far it includes taking in a few movies, checking out the zoo and a trip to the local water park! I think I’ll be ready for everyone to go back – just not for the homework woes. Thanks for coming by!

Sounds like you had a great summer!

I agree that part of going back home is eating the things in that region. I just did that when I went back home to Florida a couple weeks ago.

  3. And no one was bitten by a shark — hahah!!!!
You guys have done so much already!
We have been sucked into baseball all summer and we haven’t done much else. It’s been quite the bummer. But at least the kid is loving it 🙂
I love that you went to see the rolling stones. Super cool!!

    • We’ve done a lot – because I scheduled NOTHING else for the summer other than a dodgeball league for the Boy (which has turned out better than anticipated.) Oh, the Boy still has soccer training and Miss M has a few dance classes, but at night. But we have NOTHING during the day. It’s been great, and I don’t care if the kids watch tv or play xbox as long as they read, too. They went full throttle in the school year with little down time. #badmomdontcare

  4. Yes! Looks like an amazing summer so far! Hoping you make the most of your remaining 31 days!
