Disney Social Media Moms “On The Road” Celebration Chicago 2014

Recently I was lucky enough to be invited to Disney Social Media Moms’ “On the Road” Celebration that was held in the Chicago area.  I love Disney in all forms, so needless to say I was excited for the events of the day to unfold. What better way to mark the day than with showing a bit of Disney style!

The organizers managed to pack a LOT into one morning. Here’s a taste of what we experienced:

Huggies was there to discuss the Huggies MomInspired Grant Program.    The MomInspired Grant Program helps moms develop products that will help other moms!  Huggies will award $15,000 in seed money to help get your idea off the ground and start your own business.  Applications are due September 30, 2014, so if you have a great idea, now’s the time to put that idea into action!

Past Huggies MomInspired winners  Baby Elephant Earsand Padalily  lead a discussion panel and gave tips on developing and running your own business.

Lori Lorenz talked about HP’s TwoSmiles site and the myriad of ways HP helps moms get things done. They treated us to a box of HP greeting cards for use at home (those will get used quickly!) and they printed pictures that we had sent in of ourselves showing our #DisneySide. I’ve got a new HP wireless printer and they gave me great ideas about the ways I can put my printer to use!

My favorite talk was probably the one given the SUPER energetic Ramon DeLeon.  He discussed tips on social media and getting yourself known and out there.

Getting together with old friends and making new ones:

With the event being hosted in my home city of Chicago, it was a wonderful opportunity to get together with fellow bloggers and to meet (in person) other Disney-loving bloggers that I know via the interwebz! Shannan Younger (@momfactually) and I got to play dress up with a box of Disney props. (Fact: there is no looking serious whilst wearing Mickey ears.)

Getting the 411 on what is new at Disney:

The Disney Social Media team gave us the full update on what’s going on at Disney, from peeks at MyMagic+ bands, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train that officially opened in May,  and all about the recent the Fantasyland Renovation/ Expansion.  I had seen the 7 Dwarfs Mine Train ride under construction over spring break, and now I’m looking forward to our next visit even more!

The setting!

Everything about the room had a special “Disney” touch, from the table decorations to the treats. It made me feel like I was at the happiest place on earth!

To end the morning, we were treated to a special surprise, straight from Walt Disney World! I don’t care how old you are, a hug from Mickey is guaranteed to make you feel like a kid again!

All in all, the day was the perfect mix of learning and fun. As I drove home, I thought about how Disney has been a part of my life from my earliest memories – from sharing an ottoman with my sister waiting for the weekly “Wonderful World of Disney” movie to begin with Tinkerbell flying over the castle and family visits as a kid  (if you are old enough, you remember the tear-off tickets) to both Disneyland and WDW, to taking the Hubs for his very first visit after he finished his MBA, to taking my own kids for the very first time (to Disneyland Paris, as we were living in the UK) and then their first introduction to Walt Disney World on our move home.

The magic of Disney lives strong in my heart. So I want to know:

What’s your favorite Disney memory?
