My 5 Fave Things from Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron

Have you been to see Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron yet?  If you have, then you will love my fifth reason. (If not…really. Can we be friends?)

If you aren’t one of the bazillion people who have seen it in the first two weeks, well, let me share with you my top five favorite things about the movie:

I like action and adventure movies but what really sealed the deal for me was the cleverly written script. The humor was quick and smart, and I found myself laughing more you think you would. I don’t know why, because this kind of humor is present in all of the movies involving any of Marvel’s Avengers characters.

Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.

Seriously, the cast was fun and diverse, and James  Spader makes a deliciously sarcastic and evil Ultron. And Scarlett Johansson ROCKED as Black Widow (and I’m rooting that Marvel gives her a film of her own, because we need more girl superheroes!)

When the movie starts, BANG – you are in the middle of a battle scene. There is no slow buildup to the story line here, you are dropped straight into the action and it barrels forward at 100 miles an hour!  I admit, I’m still stumbling over what happened with Thor in the “mystical pool” (no spoiler from me here), but I’m sure that it will all get sorted (in another movie down the road) because there was so much going on in this movie.

Ok, I will confess: I am not generally a fan of 3D movies. Typically, I walk out with a banging headache, so it was with trepidation that I took the offered 3D glasses when I entered the theater – not having realized that the version we were seeing was in 3D. My mom had the same nervous look on her face – this is the woman who gets queasy watching herky-jerky filmed home movies.

However, not only could I comfortably fit the 3D glasses over my own but the images were crisp and clear and the 3D imagery added to the film but wasn’t obvious (in a “duck there’s a rock coming at my head” kind of way.)  It was a mature use of the technology, if you know what I mean.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is loaded with teasers of the Marvel movies to come and we won’t have to wait long for the next installment! Filming has begun and the movie  “Captain America: Civil War” will open in theaters on May 6, 2016.

My sources say:

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Much of the cast from Avengers: Age of Ultron returns, including:

  • Chris Evans as  Steve Rogers/Captain America
  • Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
  • Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
  • Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
  • Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon
  • Paul Bettany as The Vision
  • Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
  • Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine
  • Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

After his debut as Marvel’s upcoming release of “Ant Man” on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, and returning for the third installment in the Captain America series is Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13 and Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones.

It’s a great cast, people, and I’m happy that we’ll have “Ant Man” to fill the next superhero film on our movie schedule, because 2016 can’t come fast enough!

So tell me: Who is YOUR favorite superhero?

  1. Thank you for taking me with you. Fun night and great movie even thought I haven’t read a Marvel comic in years.

  2. Spider-Man, who will also be in Captain America 3.
