Monkey Kingdom

Monkey Kingdom opens today, April 16, in theaters everywhere. And while that is exciting enough news for my nature loving daughter who has been waiting impatiently to see this film, I was pleased to learn that for everyone that goes to see Monkey Kingdom during opening week (April 16-23), DisneyNature will make a donation to Conservation International to protect monkeys and other endangered species, to save and restore natural habitats and to support community education and forest-friendly jobs in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Cambodia.

Through donations tied to opening-week attendance for all five of their prior films, DisneyNature has provided for the planting of three million trees in Brazil, created 40,000 acres of marine protected area in The Bahamas, protected 65,000 acres of savanna in Kenya and nearly 130,000 acres of wild chimpanzee habitat, cared for chimpanzees, educated 60,000 school children about chimpanzee conservation and funded research and restoration grants in U.S. National Parks, supporting conservation projects across U.S. National Parks and protecting endangered species.

That’s putting your money where your mouth is, I’d say. Through the donations, they empowere the audience to contribute to the protection of endangered species and the habitats in which they live.

Narrated by Tina Fey,  Monkey Kingdom follows the adventures of Maya, a blonde bobbed monkey, her new son Kip and their extended family as they fight for survival when another band of monkeys forces them out of the only home they’ve known in the jungles of Southeast Asia. They escape to the city – which proves to be a strange environment, indeed – and learn to survive until she and her family can hopefully reclaim their home once again.

If you have a nature lover as keen as I do, here is a HUGE activity book to download, too. I sent mine to the printer to be printed and I put it together like a book because the Girlie is such a fan of animals and facts!

Hope to see you at the movies!
