Bring on the New Year!

I had the best of intentions to write a round up of 2011, but really? I was off at Center Parcs, having fun with my family, and so New Years Eve day had me tied up with unpacking, sorting out the dog from the kennel, laundry…you know where this is headed…
I ran out of time.
And that’s all good.
Overall, it was a pretty good year. Oh, it had its moments to be sure…quite a few posts in the first quake porter of the year revolve around the hazards of NHS dentistry. (Please don’t get me started on the NHS medical care, either…). I’ve had some rough moments, a whole lot of stress, and have been a mess at times but nothing required medication stronger than a vodka tonic…
So I’m skipping the look back…and I’m looking ahead.
And with that, in no general order, are My 10 5* Things to Celebrate About 2012:

  1. New year, new tenants.  There, I said it. The last one was a complete and total asshat, and I’ve never been so glad to get someone the hell out of my house. Honestly,  I wish I could have been there to carry their bags for them. I held my tongue whilst they were there, but I have photo evidence of what horrid care they took with my place (so no one can go yelling slander, or libel, or nanynanybooboo) so goodbye and good riddance to old trash! My new tenants are long time residents of our town, not short timers on a work assignment, and we actually know them, so I have the greatest hope that they will care for my home as of it is their own instead of disposable housing. *fingers crossed* 
  2. New Attitude: I’ve done a fair amount of whining, or whinging, however you term it. I’ve been a bucket of stress. I don’t want to be such a bitch to my kids, so I’m going to work harder to be calmer and not yell so much.  (stop laughing)  I’ve got a boatload of St. John’s Wort, Vitamin B6 and Bailey’s, and a Chillpod – I’m good to go.
  3. Losing the last 8 10 12 pounds: I’ve lost 14 or so (I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself this Christmas, so who the heck knows where I am) but by golly, I’m gonna lose this last weight. Finally. Honestly. (quit snickering) 
  4. Getting Committed. To My Writing, people. (although the alternative wouldn’t be surprising…) Just when I feel like I’m getting my groove, something pops up and throws me off track. This year, I’m going to try to be more consisted about blogging. You have been warned.
  5. Things to Do, People to See. The hosts of the New Year’s Eve party we went to had an “American Style refrigerator”, complete with ice maker/water dispenser in the door. Yes, I confess – I spent most of the evening filling my water glass with ice water. (you don’t appreciate it until you don’t have it, people). Which led me to a contemplative moment, wondering what we would miss about our time here, whenever it is we move back.  We’re halfway through our time here ( if not more) and my mentality has switched from “look at all the things we could do” to “shit, we’re going to run out of time to do/ see everything”. I’ve vowed to make myself a sort of Bucket list of things to see/do over the next year.

  1. Make that bucket list. You were given an opportunity that most families dream about so make good use of the rest of your time over there. You have made a good start.
