In My Handbag I Have A….

Some say that you can tell a lot about a person by what they carry in their handbag.

You’re curious, aren’t you? You want to know what is in my handbag?

The simple answer is, well, everything. I am the original Girl Scout. (Forget all that stuff about Boy Scouts always being prepared. They’re just little MEN. Men ask us to hold stuff in OUR handbags.)

This is my favorite purse. It’s from Belen Echandia (@BelenEchandia), and I *heart* it so much that I have one just like it in tan. I am a bag junkie; I will confess to being a  sample sale shopper.  I’m not working myself, so extravagant purchases are a thing of the past.

In my handbag, I have the obvious:

  • my wallet
  • a pen
  • tissues there is always someone who is crying and/or has a boogey-nose
  • my iPhone despite the fact that there is no 3G coverage in my neck of the woods and NO ONE here actually calls anyone – it’s all texting.
  • Tic Tacs
  • eyeglasses  which I really don’t need that often as my vision apparently corrected itself when I was pregnant with Pea; I wear them for driving
  • prescription sunglasses ditto
  • my Weight Watchers calculator
  • M.A.C. lipstick in Twig
  • Laura Mercier lipstick (the color varies)
  • Laura Mercier secret concealer it’s a constant battle with under-eye circles, people
  • motion sickness tablets for Pea
  • at least TWO Envirosax

…as well as the less-obvious:

  • camera  I never have a “oh, I wish I had my camera” moment, and I’m not afraid to use it
  • my Kindle  because I can’t see wasting time when I’m stuck waiting
  • skinny washable markers and a small sketchpad because my kids suck at waiting, too – especially when we eat out
  • a zippered pouch with a small fork, spoon, and bendy straws because I’ve had one too many spills from kids’ drinks served in super tall, skinny glassware, and Pea can’t seem to eat from the big soup spoons
  • a travel package of Splenda I likes mah Splenda
  • my blog business cards Even though I’ll only use them at Cybermummy in June
  • a Sigg bottle full of water when I remember it
  • A small spray bottle of Rescue Remedy the bottle of Absolut was too obvious, and heavy

It’s getting tamer, and I suppose I could do away with the spoon and bendy straws – now that I’ve copped to carrying them, it does seem to be a bit much….thankfully I no longer have to carry underpants.

However, not long ago I won THIS bag from Belen Echandia – primarily because I tweeted that my purse contained, among other things, princess underwear. (Pea’s. Not mine. Mothers of potty-training children will understand this.)

How cool is that? I won this lovely because, basically, I carry freaking everything in my bag. And they thought that the underpants were hilarious. And I’m sure they were debating who they belonged to, and all.

What does it say about me?

I carry a big bag. check

I have children. check

I am Ready McReaderson….

Or I’m just anal and overprepared.

You decide.

Mama’s Losin’ It

  1. I felt like I could have written this! I get teased so often for carrying a stash in my bag to be prepared. One never knows, after all, right??

    Stopping by from Mama Kat’s.

  2. I will be the same when I have kids! I already carry around way more than I need. I almost need a backpack, not a handbag.

  3. I carry alot of crap in my purse. I too have a kindle, wallet, tissue, and my fav lipstick.
What I hate is when I am out at lunch with a friend and I flop my purse open and the kids have stuck some random item in there. Emma has done this with her underwear and used suckers.

    • That is the beauty of a diaper bag! Just promise me, when you have kids, you will not get a bag with Pooh Bear or something on it – you are carrying that bag, the baby doesn’t care! there are plenty of non- diaperbag looking diaper bags put there… *steps down off if soapbox*

  4. You’re ready for anything! I hated the whole diaper bag thing and tried to get as much in my purse as possible, too. Some purses now are so huge. I always wonder what is in them. Now I know 🙂
