She’s Not Always a Princess, or, It’s Just Semantics.

One Sunday morning during the first few months we were married, the Hubs and I were sitting in church, watching the adorable little girl in the pew in front of us. She was hugging on her dad when she leaned back, her arms around his neck — and head-butted him. Hard.

The Hubs grinned widely. “I want a little girl like that”.

Flash forward to yesterday.

***

Boo bursts into the room, sobbing. “Pea punched me!”

I look at him dubiously. He stands about a foot taller than her, and outweighs her by about 20 pounds. “Why would she do that? Did she really do that?” From the playroom, I hear Pea yell “I didn’t hit him!”

In the end, it was one child’s word against the others. They were told to behave, and they went back to playing.

***

At the end of the day, as I snuggled with Pea at bedtime, I asked her – again-  if she had indeed hit Boo earlier in the day. She replied “I didn’t hit him, Momma”.

“I PUNCHED him.”

Oh. Um. Okay.

I tried to explain that punching WAS hitting. “When you punch him, you are hitting him with your fist”, I said as I mimed punching my fist against my open hand. “And any kind of hitting is naughty.” At which point, she interrupted me, saying “Momma, I didn’t punch him with that part of my fist, I punched him like dis“.

At which point, I stammered something along the lines of “Well, NO MORE hitting…OR punching” and got the hell out of that room as fast as I could.

Because, you know, it would prolly send the wrong message for her to see me snorting with laughter. I guess the Hubs got his little girl, after all.

She may look sweet but she packs a mean punch

We had to take our son to the emergency eye doctor once as our cute little daughter punched our son in the eye and scratched his cornea. He required a patch and antibiotics.
Supposedly she had told him to leave her alone but he kept on annoying her. She bragged her story around with much pride.

Ouch…its hard to know how to respond when they are so proud of themselves, isn’t it? We do a lot of silent cheering for her, honestly. Love my boy, but he has to toughen up, too.

My son is also nicknamed boo. It used to be boo bear but he thinks he is too old for that. He has a grand total of nine years on this earth!

I have a 3 year old that will look all sweet with pink frilly girlie clothes on and proabably a big butt bow in her hair and she will walk right up to you and kick you right inthe shin. Tough as nails but she does it while rocking some style.

I have to say, I’m LOVING the name of your blog. The name alone will send me by to check it out. I think she and Maddie would get along just fine!
