Dogs Don’t Wear Shoes

If you stop by my house at, oh, say, 8pm on any given evening, you will find me mopping.

I know. It’s sad.

Really, really sad.

I hadn’t expected the floors to get THIS dirty. We are a no-shoes-in-the-house family.  The Hubs has been strict about this to the point that my kids typically pull off their shoes when they go into another person’s house.

But, you see, I have a puppy. She is a sweet puppy, and she is very nearly housetrained.

But she doesn’t wear shoes. For obvious reasons.

And all the dirt on her feet – despite my attempts to wipe them dry at the back door – is quite obviously making its way into my home.

I also hadn’t accounted for all the EXTRA traffic in and out the doors, kids chasing the puppy, coming back inside to hunt down more poo bags because there are no more outside….and we aren’t doing so well, then, taking off shoes.

Every night I mop. I don’t feel like I’m really getting the floors clean. Granted, they are really old, so perhaps the coloring is part of the tiles (she tells herself in hopeful desperation). I’m not much of a scrub-on-your-hands-and-knees kind of gal, either.  I also find that the “floor cleaners” here don’t much seem to clean floors. Disinfect, yes, but actually clean them? Not so much. Not unlike the dishsoap (or “washing up liquid”) doesn’t seem to do much to cut grease. But that is another rant entirely. I could be a spokeswoman for Dawn. Seriously.

Meanwhile, here is nothing I can do about it but continue to mop.

And wonder if Jimmy Choo does shoes for cocker spaniels.

  1. I’ve got this great steam mop. It’s a Haan steam cleaner. Works on hard wood, laminates, ceramic, slate etc… Does a great job, best purchase in about 7 years for the floors

  2. I, too, have been pondering buying the Hahn steamer because my floors are NEVER clean. I know others who love their Hahn steamer, too.

  3. I found your site from Pumpkin Delight. I love it. I’m going to poke around a little bit, but don’t worry I’ll put everything back where I found it!!
