Fill in the Blank Friday: Summer vs Winter

Since I was brusquely woken up this morning by an agitated husband, whose car was stuck in the freshly fallen snow down the road, today’s blanks are ironically appropriate. Like Lauren over at the little things we do, I hate the cold.

H. A. T. E.  The.  Cold.

Anyway, enough about me. And more about me….it’s time for another edition of “fill in the blank” Friday!

1. Winter is long and cold and wet and dark and cold. Yes, I said cold twice. And here in the UK, you can add rainy to that mix, too. Thank goodness for Christmas, fireplaces, my grandmother’s cozy afghans and warm, snuggly sweaters.

2. Summer is my favorite season. Sunshine, sandals, sundresses. Pimm’s, iced tea, lemonade. Barbeques, beaches, farmer’s markets, picnics. These are a few of my favorite things!

3. If were summer instead of winter right now, I’d be picking cucumbers and peppers from my greenhouse, tossing together a salad and throwing fish or chicken on the grill. Or, better yet — I’d be a the beach, sans shoes, sand between my toes, cool drink in one hand and a good book in the other.

4. My favorite thing to do in winter is curl up with a cup of tea or a latte, my favorite yellow afghan and a book (or my Kindle) by the fireplace.

5. My favorite thing to do in summer is go to the beach and jump waves! However, since I live far, far away from North Carolina, when we aren’t there on holiday, I like to jump on the trampoline with the kids or go get an ice cream at Shepherds, and then grill and eat dinner on the patio. It’s nice to end the day  by watching the sunset and enjoying a glass of wine with the Hubs when the kids are in bed.

6. The ideal outfit for a summer day is my sunglasses, a pretty sundress and my favorite sandals.

7. The ideal outfit for a frigid winter day is a warm tunic sweater, leggings, and my favorite tall Ugg boots. Warm, soft and cozy.

Well, that’s enough of thinking about winter. Brrrr!  I want to know how YOU would fill in the blanks! Play along in the comment section OR link up your blog at the little things you do.

Happy Friday! Keep warm!!!

  1. I didn’t know you were from/came to NC for holiday! That’s where I live, halfway between the mountains and the beach, and I grew up jumping waves as well. What a nice memory you brought back to me.

    • My husband grew up going to the OBX every summer…his brother picked up the tradition with his kids, and we have gone every summer for the past 7 years – Boo’s first trip was at 5 months old!
It is my very favorite vacation, because we know where we like to go, restaurants we like, have our traditions there, and we know the area (we always stay in Duck) – it’s like slipping on a favorite pair of comfy slippers.

  2. A competition between Summer and Winter ? Are they even in the same league ? Surely Summer wins by a mile !!!??!!
