Today, we are embarking on a new adventure. The prompt for this first week is “new”- an appropriate one for the first week of a new year.
To start us off, Boo (who became pretty upset that I was referring to him as “Boo” here – but hey, it’s my blog) drew a picture of the two of us.
He, with a mighty big pencil, and me with my laptop. I appreciate that he has it in my outstretched hand and not on my lap, where he usually sees it. I appreciate more that he has given me a long, lean body. The hair isn’t too far off mark, unfortunately.
Talking about what he thinks about when he hears “new”, he immediately said “trying new foods – because Papa Dan always said “Be adventurous – you can’t say you don’t like something if you didn’t try it”. A rule I make my kids live by, and I think he’s finally “got” it. I will give Boo this – he doesn’t shy away from new foods – he will try it.
We then talked about all the new things we’ve done last year: trying new things (he discovered he CAN eat a whole olive and not swallow the pip), seeing new places (Disneyland Paris, Paris, London, castles, ruins) and meeting new people.
In the end, Boo said “trying new things is really fun”. This from a boy very much like his mother – who enjoys new things, but approaches them very, very cautiously.
New things are fun, indeed.
